Self Regional Healthcare Selects Paragon ® to Support Healthcare Reform Initiatives
South Carolina-based provider positioning for success with integrated HIS
ATLANTA--(BUSINESS WIRE)-- As part of its preparation for healthcare reform, Self Regional Healthcare in Greenwood, S.C., has decided to move to McKesson's Paragon®hospital information system (HIS). One of McKesson's accountable care demonstrator sites, the 414-bed hospital selected McKesson's top-rated1 HIS to support patient care and business health initiatives as it charts the course for a sustainable future.
"Paragon will help us to deliver real-time, complete and actionable information to our clinicians and staff," said Chuck McDevitt, chief information officer, Self Regional Healthcare. "As the healthcare landscape evolves, the ability to provide greater data access and new capabilities will be critical to our success."
With the Paragon fully integrated clinical and financial HIS, Self Regional can advance its Lean Six Sigma processes by reducing its total cost of ownership as well as IT complexity. By optimizing health IT, the hospital can further advance its healthcare reform initiatives. These include preparing for new care and payment models by streamlining data access, managing costs and coordinating care. As part of that effort, Self Regional also is using RelayHealth solutions to help improve coordination of care among providers and settings, including a patient-centered medical home model to help transform care delivery. In addition, the hospital uses McKesson analytics tools for enterprise intelligence that integrate clinical, financial and operational data.
"Moving to the Paragon platform will lay the foundation for us to expand to new payment models as we move down the path of healthcare reform," added Timothy Evans, chief financial officer, Self Regional Healthcare. "We're enthused about extending our relationship with McKesson, and our staff believes that Paragon will provide us with the flexibility that we need for the future."
Paragon is part of McKesson's comprehensive health IT portfolio, which is aimed at better business, better care and better connectivity. Through the company's Better Health 2020™ strategy, McKesson focuses on technologies to help organizations reduce costs, improve performance and quality, coordinate care and navigate complex payment models.
"We value our long-standing partnership with Self Regional, whose leaders continue to demonstrate innovation in the use of healthcare IT," said Jim Pesce, president, Enterprise Information Solutions, McKesson Technology Solutions. "By choosing an integrated HIS, Self Regional is taking a very thoughtful approach to optimizing the value of technology to drive better connectivity, better business health and better patient care."
